Academia Sinica, Taiwan, invites applications for the open position of Director of the Institute of Plant & Microbial Biology (IPMB). The initial appointment is for a period of three years (renewable for a second term), and will also carry the title of Research Fellow, or higher if applicable.
As the pre-eminent academic research institution in Taiwan, Academia Sinica is devoted to basic and applied research in life sciences, mathematics, physical sciences, and humanities and social sciences. IPMB currently consists of 23 laboratories, engaged in research leading to a better understanding of biological processes in both plants and microbes. The research of IPMB is organized into four major areas: 1) Chromosome, Genome, and Systems Biology, 2) Cell and Developmental Biology, 3) Plant-Environment Interactions, and 4) Plant and Environmental Microbiology. IPMB is well funded and equipped with modern research facilities managed by experienced research specialists. IPMB maintains a high research standard with a high-quality publication record. Interested candidates should have outstanding research accomplishments and demonstrated leadership experience. Besides conducting a rigorous research program at IPMB, the successful candidate is expected to build on the existing strengths of IPMB, develop new research thrusts, and provide intellectual leadership in relevant basic and applied plant/microbial sciences in Taiwan. International applicants are encouraged. Academia Sinica is a vibrant and diverse research campus with about 10% international scientists at all levels where English is commonplace. Mandarin speaking ability is useful but not required.
