Three Fully Funded Graduate Student Positions in Environmental Microbiology/Biotechnology

The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Kentucky has three fully funded positions (two for master's and one for Ph.D.) in Environmental Engineering for Fall 2023, Spring 2024, or Fall 2024.

The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Kentucky has three fully funded positions (two for master's and one for Ph.D.) in Environmental Engineering for Fall 2023, Spring 2024, or Fall 2024. The successful candidates will work on various research projects, including but not limited to wastewater treatments, the bioremediation of disinfectants, the assessment of microbial risks in floodwaters with NGS techniques, the microbial metabolisms of rare sugars, and the investigation of molecular mechanisms for microbial-derived soil mineral associated organic matter formation. 

We welcome applications from candidates with an undergraduate degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, biological engineering, chemical engineering, microbiology, or related fields. A master's degree is preferred for Ph.D. applicants. The ideal candidates will be self-motivated and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team. While not required, candidates with knowledge of environmental biotechnology/microbiology, wet-laboratory skills, and computing skills such as Python, R, and UNIX are preferred.
