The Chair of Ecological Microbiology (Prof. Tillmann Lueders) of the University of Bayreuth is looking for a highly motivated junior scientist, typically having completed a first postdoctoral phase, with an already well-established profile in the field of rhizosphere microbiome research. The position is available for up to 6 (3+3) years and offers the opportunity to develop an own research team and agenda.

The position is available for an initial 3 years starting in October 2020, with an extension by another 3 years possible upon positive performance. We seek to fill the position a.s.a.p., but no later than December 2020.

The tasks in research and teaching include:

  • Development of an own research agenda and team in any field of rhizosphere microbial ecology
  • Co-supervision of running PhD projects in rhizosphere microbiology at the Chair
  • Teaching duties (lectures, exercises, etc.) amount to 5 weekly credit hours per semester [SWS] in the fields of Environmental Microbiology and Molecular Ecology. Teaching is possible in German and English language.
  • Acquisition of own and collaborative third-party funds from national and European funders
  • The position supports further academic qualification, i.e. a habilitation

Your profile: You have completed a PhD and typically one Postdoc phase in any field of rhizosphere microbial ecology, preferrably for agricultural plants. You can demonstrate relevant research experience and publications. Good skills in metagenomics and transcriptomics are welcome. You already have experience in teaching, in the acquisition of research funds and in the supervision of students.

Remuneration: The successful applicant will be enrolled as a civil servant (paygrade A13Z), for an initial period of 3 years. An extension as non-tenured civil servant by another 3 years is possible.
