Postdoctoral Scientist - Bacterial interspecies communication

The Department of Plant Pathology and Ecology at the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Scientist.

The proposed project aims to characterize interspecies quorum sensing in the rhizosphere. Two thirds of the project will focus on characterization of rhizosphere bacteria using metagenomic and metatranscriptomic methods, and one third on chemical characterization of biomolecules in the rhizosphere.

We are seeking a recent Ph.D. with training in microbial ecology, molecular-plant-microbe interactions, or a closely related field. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in bacterial culture, metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, and various sequencing platforms, as well as small molecule characterization using mass spectrometry.

The candidate should demonstrate enthusiasm for the project, a willingness to learn, a commitment to work cooperatively, and must be able to work independently and part of a team and possess strong written and verbal communication skills. A significant record of productivity as demonstrated through refereed publications is preferred.

Interested candidates should submit the following documents electronically:

1) A letter of application describing your interest in the position, research interests and career goals, and a brief overview explaining how your research experience will help you succeed with the position duties.

2) A Curriculum Vitae

3) The names and contact information (including email addresses) for three professional references.

Please send the above materials to Dr. Quan Zeng at quan.zeng@ct.gov and Dr. Sara Nason at sara.nason@ct.gov. Review of applicants will begin on January 29th and will continue until a suitable applicant is found. Contact Dr. Zeng or Dr. Nason via email with any questions about the position.

This position is funded by the Louis A. Magnarelli postdoctoral fellowship for two years. The starting salary is $51,622/yr with competitive medical and dental benefits.
