Postdoctoral Research Scholar

Key collaborators on the project include co-PI Dr. Scott Gifford (UNC-Chapel Hill) and Dr. Erin Bertrand (Dalhousie University).

The NSF-funded project supports the employment of a Postdoctoral Research Scholar for one year. The desired start is Fall 2022 . It is expected that the Postdoctoral Research Scholar will work with PI – Ryan Paerl to submit a follow-up proposal to acquire salary support to extend the Postdoctoral position beyond 2023. 

The primary role of this Postdoctoral Research Scholar position will be to lead chemostat experiments with model marine (Roseobacteria, Vibrio) and non-marine model bacteria (E. coli) in order to obtain estimates of protein turnover and vitamin cell quota under different nutrient conditions. Secondary roles can include collaborating on transcriptomic and competitive fitness experiments as well as mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.
