At the Department of Chemistry and Bioscience, Section of Biology and Environmental Science a position as Associate Professor in Freshwater Ecology is open for appointment at Aalborg University from 1 January 2021 or soon hereafter. The Department consists of five sections of which three are situated in Aalborg with research and teaching in Biology, Biotechnology, Applied Chemistry and Environmental Technology, one in Esbjerg on Chemical Engineering and one in Copenhagen on Sustainable Biotechnology. The position is located within the section of Biology and Environmental Science with working place in Aalborg.

Job description

Aalborg University ranks as no. 4 in the world, and best in Europe, within the field of Engineering. We have great opportunities and tradition for interdisciplinary collaboration within the Department that at the Aalborg campus also includes Section of Chemistry and Section of Biotechnology, both also with excellent research and technological platforms within their fields. The Section of Biology and Environmental Science is developing progressively and several academic staff members have recently joined the section. The section plays a key role in the BSc and MSc educations in Biology and Environmental Science.

We are looking for a dynamic, motivated and problem-solving candidate with a background in engineering, biology or related fields to join our team. We expect that you have experience in one or more of the following areas: River, lake or wetland ecology, restoration of freshwater ecosystems, ecosystem modelling, GIS, quantitative analyses or mitigation of environmental- and climate change.

You will join one or both of our Research Areas: Environmental Bioscience and Biomonitoring or Biodiversity and Evolutionary Biology and is expected to develop competitive research within Freshwater Ecology or Limnology and attract external funding. There will also be possibilities for Research-based public-sector services.

Furthermore, you will be involved in teaching activities and further development of the BSc and MSc educations in biology, environmental science and environmental engineering. All educational programs at Aalborg University are based on Problem Based Learning and project work makes up half the teaching load at all semesters. You will therefore be expected to supervise Bachelor, Master and PhD students.

Qualification requirements: 

The level of qualification for Associate Professors shall correspond to the level, which can be achieved on the basis of the appointment as Assistant Professor, but may be achievable in other ways. The appointment presupposes that the applicant can demonstrate original scientific production at an international level as well as documented teaching qualifications. Appointment to the position requires that both research and teaching qualifications are at the requested level. The two qualifications will be given equal and principal priority in the overall assessment.

Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities.
