2 PostDoc and 1 PhD student position in climate change and N cycle microbiology

The Martens-Habbena lab at University of Florida is offering two Postdoc positions and one Ph.D. student position in microbial physiology, ecology and biogeochemistry.

Two postdoctoral positions and one Ph.D. student position are available in the Martens-Habbena lab at the University of Florida, Fort Lauderdale Research and Education Center in two USDA-funded interdisciplinary research projects at the intersection of microbial physiology, molecular microbial ecology, biogeochemistry and landscape ecology.

Postdoctoral position 1 is in a collaborative project between the Qiu and Martens-Habbena labs that aims to improve understanding of grassland microbial communities to climate warming and changing precipitation regime and its consequences on soil carbon sequestration and greenhouse gas emissions.

Minimum requirements include a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline such as molecular microbial ecology or biogeochemistry; desired areas of qualifications could include experience in microbial community analyses (metagenomics/metatranscriptomics and amplicon sequencing), stable isotope probing, cultivation and metabolic diversity, greenhouse flux analyses, stable isotope tracing. Applicants should send a letter of interest, CV, and names of three references to w.martenshabbena@ufl.edu. The position is available in July, 2023.

Postdoctoral position 2 and Ph.D. student position in the Martens-Habbena lab aim to improve understanding of microbial physiology of nitrogen cycle microorganisms and their interactions with plants and abiotic soil components.

Minimum requirements for Postdoctoral Position include a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline such as molecular microbial physiology, biochemistry, microbial genetics and genomics. Desired areas of qualifications could include experience with physiology, biochemistry, genetics/genomics of non-model organisms, various cultivation techniques, multiomics approaches. Applicants should send a letter of interest, CV, and names of three references to w.martenshabbena@ufl.edu. This position is available in July, 2023.

The Ph.D. student position will be in the Microbiology and Cell Science Ph.D. Program. Minimum requirements position include undergraduate degree in microbiology or microbial ecology, or related discipline, strong interest in environmental microbiology, and preferentially laboratory research experience. Applicants should send a letter of interest, CV, and names of two references to w.martenshabbena@ufl.edu. The position is available in July, 2023.

The Martens-Habbena lab thrives to be an inclusive, welcoming, and safe environment for people of all backgrounds, ethnic, and gender identities. All positions include comprehensive benefits.
