The African Genome Centre is looking to appoint an Open Rank faculty member specializing in Population Genomics. This role involves a focus on investigating genetic variation within and between populations of organisms to comprehend genetic diversity, evolutionary processes, and population dynamics shaping the genomic composition of species.
Applicants for this position should possess expertise in analyzing the genomes of individuals within a population, enabling insights into the distribution and frequency of genetic variations, along with factors influencing population structure.
Successful candidates are expected to have an outstanding publication track record in the field. Additionally, they should demonstrate a proactive approach to developing an independent research program, collaborative teamwork, and evidence of interdisciplinary collaboration.
This position will be integral to an interdisciplinary environment, allowing the candidate to engage with researchers across various domains, including genome editing, natural product chemistry, microbial engineering, agricultural and environmental biotechnology, as well as metabolic engineering and microbiology, among others.
Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities encompass:
- Supervising graduate students and postdocs engaged in population genomics, molecular genetics and evolutionary biology.
- Developing collaborative research initiatives in population genomics focused on African species.
- Contributing to institutional research, academic programs, and actively participating in related activities.
Eligibility:
- Ph.D. in population genomics, molecular genetics and evolutionary biology, or related fields.
- Postdoctoral experience is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in population genomics evidenced by publications and research projects.
- Strong communication skills suitable for diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated commitment to both research and training.
